Join the proxy-maintainer project now!
Yes, another post about proxy-maintainers[1][2][3]. We already maintain 76 packages (listed below))[4] but we have a lot of work to do as the total number of unmaintained packages is 688 [5]. If you spot a package, listed in the maintainer-needed list[5] that you use regularly, get in touch with us[6] and we will try to help you push your patches to Gentoo portage.

Meh, yes I am still here
About six months ago I ranted about Gentoo and that I wanted to start migrating my boxes to another distro. However, I failed miserably. I only managed to migrate just one box to Arch Linux but the rest of my boxes are far far away so it is not possible to do this process remotely. Or maybe it is, but it would require a massive amount of time and energy which I currently don’t have. Moreover, I was not able to get my motivation back so I am still around doing some routine tasks (retirements, trivial version bumps, treecleaning etc) as well as some recruitment work. This is actually quite good, cos I get to recruit new people to fill in my void :)
I would also like to apologize for the long standing bugs, but given the fact that most of the herds, who co-maintain my packages, are nearly empty, and I have no fast, reliable and, most importantly, available hardware to do my tests, I can’t do much :). However, I still have a few VirtualBox machines, running on the remote boxes, which help me stay in touch for the time being.
Heads up: How to set your default graphics engine in Qt-4.8.0
Since one hour ago, Qt-4.8.0 is in Gentoo portage tree. New major release so lots of new (or broken) stuff. The most important feature in this release is the integration of a new eselect module. This module will allow you to set your default graphics engine without the need to recompile Qt (x11-libs/qt-gui to be precise) from scratch. So, provided you have qt-gui-4.8.0 installed, you should be able to use the eselect module as follows:
hwoarang@mystical ~$ eselect qtgraphicssystem list
Available Qt Graphics Systems: [1] native [2] opengl [3] raster *
(note: if you have x11-libs/qt-openvg installed, one more option should be available)
Simply select your graphics system of preference, and then logout and login again.
hwoarang@mystical ~$ eselect qtgraphicssystem set 2 Setting opengl as your active Qt Graphics System... done Please logout for changes to take effect.
Thanks to Alex(wired) for the eselect module implementation.
Enjoy ;-)
sys-libs/freeipmi-1.0.4 testers wanted
I know I haven’t written anything for a month or so. This post is merely a public request for gentoo users who use sys-libs/freeipmi to jump in and test the new version otherwise freeipmi will lose the stable keywords and everything that depends on that will be reverted back to ~arch tree soon. If you do not want this to happen, come to the freeipmi bug[1] and post your testing results.

Lightdm on Gentoo: Artwork needed
I recently pushed lightdm to Gentoo portage tree. I was in a good mood so I decided to create a Gentoo specific configuration ( the one you get if gtk and branding flags are enabled )
However, if you consider yourself an artist, you can send me your own lightdm-{gtk,qt}-greeter.conf + background image along with a screenshot and if you are lucky enough, I will use your own configuration on future lightdm releases ;-)
