One step forward

July 31, 2009 · Posted in Life

I know I haven’t written anything here for a while but there was a reason. I finally managed to finished my thesis and done with my university studies.  Now, I am officially qualified to wreck up your systems…

Damn, I am not a student anymore :( .

Apart from that, I had to pack everything (~40 boxes omg ) and move out by the end of July. I am moving back to my beautiful island which I miss so much. But not for too long. In three weeks I am supposed to join the army as a radio engineer ( or something ) until  May 2010. Ok this sucks big time.

Anyway. I wont be around much but I am sure that our new (qt herd) recruits will do a great job during my absence.

    I must second comzeradd – patience is a virtue while a conscript [been there
    done that in the french army in 96]. Also the ability to shut up and make sure
    you have your back covered by having all your forms properly filled and signed.

    Best Island ever :P

    @comzeradd & Francois

    What bothers me is that I am gonna lose 9 months out of my life for nothing. What a waste of time…

    @Ben

    I haven’t done anything special. I am quite confident that Qt is in pretty good hands right now :)

    Congrats for finishing the university!!!

    It’s an awkward period of life, the part that starts now. You have just finished with your degree and now wait to join the Greek army. The army is an experience that you gain much less compared to what you lose (girlfriend, time that could be spent on working in a real job, etc.). Just try to be relaxed (not too much though), obey orders and not stand out in the crowd (you’ll figure out why). :-) If you can earn a position in an office with a computer (as a typist with secreterial duties), it would be nice, the time would pass more easily for you. When you are in the university, you know that you have some goals until you get your degree and you are mainly focused on that. In the army, this does not apply, besides the fact that you wait for time to pass. Plus the fact that after finishing the army, you will probably have to find a job, so this is another thing to consider (but not now).

    These were my thoughts from the part of my life that you are living now. Just try to relax until you leave home and join the army. Which camp wil you go to?

    Thanks Vasilis for your advices. I am going to Kalamata at first (διαβιβαστής). Then, I suppose, I will be transfered to Chios :)

    First of all, congratulations on your degree :) You owe a treat next time we meat :)

    Don’t worry at all about the army :) You will find a couple of “army-friends” with whom you will share a few common interests and everything will roll very very smoothly. Anyway, it’s only 9 months :)

    The difficult thing is to choose what you have to do after finishing the army…that’s exactly the spot I am in right now :P You have 9 months to ponder over it…be careful though, my 12 months of army service passed a lot faster than I originally thought they would take :P

    Indeed, I am already wondering what I’m gonna do next. Anyway, I guess I can forget about it for now and enjoy the next 18 days :)
